MAAN renews its commitment to stand for
Palestinian workers!

Presents a new paradigm for cooperation between
Israelis and Palestinians

WAC–MAAN | October 2020 Newsletter

protesters with signs at GREEN-NETThe COVID-19 pandemic represents a global earthquake that has shaken politics, the economy and society. The pre-COVID-19 paradigms that governed our lives are now being re-examined. The pandemic, together with its attendant economic crisis, is changing reality for both Israelis and Palestinians. Also the way many have perceived that the path to peace over the past decades – the two states solution – now requires a fundamental change. The crisis mandates that WAC-MAAN (henceforth WAC) adjust and re-articulate its economic and social vision. WAC sees itself as an ally to every progressive movement and organization in Palestine and Israel, striving to build a shared society based on a green and progressive economy while ensuring a life of dignity for all.

Recently WAC participated in discussions between unions and progressive movements, locally and internationally, which resulted in our publishing „A New Paradigm for a Changing World,“ which puts forward our vision for a joint future of Palestinians and Israelis.

The pandemic dictated that we should intensify our work in protecting Palestinian and Israeli workers. In the past seven months, we have shown that our union can adapt to new and complex circumstances and continue to play a leading role in the social arena.

We hope this newsletter finds you in good health, and that it will add energies to the fight for justice all over the world. Together with millions of Americans, we hope that next month’s US elections will bring about a more deserving leadership for the American people. Such a change, fueled by the amazing Black Lives Matter movement, will open possibilities for the renewal of progressive forces in our own region as well.

The October Newsletter includes reports on the different fields and activities which WAC is involved with:

  • Defense of Palestinian workers employed by Israeli companies in Area-C.
  • Support of unemployed Palestinian women in East Jerusalem.
  • Empowering Arab women in Israel’s Triangle during the pandemic.

Please write us with your insights and comments.
